Best achievers of 2022 A/L exam

Pramodi Munasinghe of Sujatha Vidyalaya, Matara has obtained the first place in the Biology Stream of the Advanced Level Examination held early this year.

According to the results released yesterday (4), Maneth Manula Perera of Royal College, Colombo, obtained the first place in the Physical Science stream.

Kavidini Dilsarani Tharushika of Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya in Colombo has obtained the best results in the island in the Commerce stream while Samuditha Nayanapriya of Richmond College in Galle is the island’s first in the Engineering Technology stream.

Meanwhile, W.A.M.Sachini Sathsarani of St.Joseph Girls College in Kegalle has obtained island’s best results in Arts stream.

The A/L examination for the year 2022 was held from January 23 to February 5, 2023.

The Education Ministry said that a total of 166,938 (63.3%) candidates including 149,487 school candidates and 17,451 private candidates have qualified to enter universities.

The ministry also said that the results of 84 applicants have been suspended.

Examination results can be viewed by visiting www.donets.lk and www.results.exam.gov.lk.

The candidates appearing for the exam again can apply through the website of the examination department from September 11-16.

For the re-evaluation of the exam results, the ministry said that the applications should be submitted through the Examination Department’s website from September 07-06.

Duminda Dissanayake further remanded

Former Minister Duminda Dissanayake has been further remanded until July 07 after being produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court today (June 26), in connection with the discovery of a gold-plated T-56 firearm at an apartment complex in Havelock Town, Colombo.

Meanwhile, the third suspect in the case has been granted bail by the court.

Prime mover topples onto trishaw in Orugodawatta

A three-wheeler driver was seriously injured following an accident in the Orugodawatta area today (June 26), after a container truck overturned onto his vehicle around 2.30 am.

The accident occurred near the Orugodawatta traffic lights as a prime mover transporting cargo from Avissawella, turning towards ‘Ingurukade’ had toppled over.

The injured driver was rescued by the Colombo Fire Service Department with the help of local residents and admitted to the hospital.

Respiratory illnesses on the rise amid rainy weather

Health authorities report an increase in respiratory illnesses due to the prevailing rainy weather conditions.

Consultant Dr. Athula Liyanapathirana of the Epidemiology Division of the Ministry of Health, stated that vulnerable groups including young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with chronic diseases should exercise extra caution during this period.

He further advised the public to seek immediate medical care if experiencing difficulty in breathing.
