SL thrashes England for 8 wicket win

Sri Lanka thrashed defending Champions England by 8 wickets in the 25th game of the 2023 ODI World Cup in Bangalore.

Chasing a below-par 157-run target, Sri Lanka crossed the line in 25.4 overs losing just two wickets.

The chase was scripted by Pathum Nissanka and Sadeera Samarawickrama who put on an unbroken 137-run stand for the third wicket.

Indika Gamage cliches bronze in Japan

Indika Gamage who took part in the T-44 100 metres final clinched a bronze medal at the World Para Athletic Championship held in Kobe, Japan yesterday (May 20).

He finished the race with a time of 11.83 seconds while South African para athlete Mpumelelo Mhlongo finished first with his seasonal best time of 11.34 seconds to win the gold medal and Malaysian Eddy Bernard finished second with his personal best of 11.77 seconds.

Indika also reached the Paris Paralympics Games qualifying standard with this achievement.

SL 4 x 400 m mixed relay team wins Silver in Thailand

Sri Lanka 4 x 400 m mixed relay team won a silver medal at the inaugural Asian Relay Championship held in Bangkok, Thailand yesterday (May 20)

The Sri Lanka team comprised Aruna Dharshana, Pasindu Lakshan Kodikara, Sayuri Mendis and Nadeesha Ramanayake and they did this achievement with a time of 3 minutes 17 seconds while India team with a time of 3 minutes 14.12 seconds (3.14.12) won the first place to take gold. The Vietnamese team won the bronze with a time of 3.18.45 seconds.

SLC increases player fees

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is pleased to announce that player fees for all categories of Sri Lanka’s international players have been increased, with immediate effect.
Accordingly, 41 players will be offered new contracts under six categories, namely, A1, A2, B2, C1, C2, and ‘A’ Team.

The Test Match Fees is merit based
Under the latest raise, match fees for the Test format have been increased by 100 percent, while payments will be made on merit basis.

There will be different payment structures for a test match ‘won’, ‘drawn’ or ‘lost.’

ODI and T20I Match Fees
In the meantime, match fees for both ODI and T20I have been raised by 25 percent.

ICC rankers to be recognized
Sri Lanka Cricket also decided to recognize the players who become top-ranked in the ICC Player Rankings.

Accordingly, a player will be financially rewarded with a one-time payment if they become the ‘Best Batsman, Best Bowler, or Best All-Rounder based on ICC rankings, covering all formats.

In the meantime, if a player attains a ranking between 10th and 2nd place in the ICC rankings in the aforesaid categories, such players will also be recognized with a one-time payment.

Daily allowance and per diems
Additionally, daily allowances and per diems for all contracted players have been enhanced to provide better support during national team’s inbound and outbound engagements.

This decision by Sri Lanka Cricket’s Executive Committee, headed by Mr. Shammi Silva, the President of the SLC, reflects the SLC’s commitment to supporting and valuing our national players equally across all formats.
