Adarsha Karadana released on bail

Adarsha Karadana, who was arrested by the CID yesterday (11 Jan.), has been released on bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.

Accordingly, Karadana was released on two surety bails of Rs. 500,000 each on the orders of Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis.

Karadana was arrested by the Police Computer Crimes Division of the CID yesterday over a complaint filed by former Presidential Advisor – Ashu Marasinghe, pertaining to a video released by her in which Marasinghe is allegedly seen sexually abusing her pet dog.

72-hr detention order to quiz Manna Ramesh (Update)

Police obtained a 72-hour detention order to question Ramesh Priyajanaka alias ‘Manna Ramesh’ who was arrested in Dubai and brought down to Sri Lanka today (May 07) by a team of CID officers.

According to the police spokesman, the order was issued following a request made by the CID.

‘Manna Ramesh’ extradited to Sri Lanka

Notorious criminal Ramesh Mihiranga, alias ‘Manna Ramesh’, was brought to Sri Lanka from the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake this morning (May 07).

A team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had left for Dubai to escort ‘Manna Ramesh’ back to Sri Lanka following his arrest by the Dubai Police around 2 months ago.

Earlier, an Interpol Red Notice was issued over the arrest of ‘Manna Ramesh’, who was wanted over several crimes including multiple murders in the Avissawella area.

He will be detained by the CID for further questioning after being produced before court.

Fowzie’s son arrested & released on police bail

Nauzer Fowzie, the son of the former Minister A.H.M. Fowzie has been apprehended by Kollupitiya Police on charges of assault following an accident involving his vehicle, police say.

The incident occurred on School Lane in Kollupitiya, and Fowzie faces charges of assaulting he had collided with.

He was subsequently released on police bail.

Kollupitiya Police is conducting further investigations into the incident.

China to back digital education transformation project

The Chinese Government has pledged support for Sri Lanka’s digital education transformation project.

This project is expected to enhance general education by providing classrooms, data centres, and necessary equipment like tables, studio rooms, and conference rooms.

These resources will facilitate blended learning methods, and resource sharing, and enable teachers with special skills to engage students effectively.

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Education.
