Uncle Percy passes away at age 87

Percy Abeysekara, also known as ‘Percy Uncle’, passed away at the age of 87.

Born on July 30, 1936. He is more well-known for his steadfast support and encouragement of the Sri Lankan cricket team than for his actual cricketing prowess. For more than 50 years, he has been at cricket grounds supporting his favourite players and his country, Sri Lanka.

Percy started his cheerleading journey with the Sri Lankan flag in 1979.  He has watched every Sri Lankan match since the 1979 World Cup. Even though he wasn’t a player, his passionate support has had a huge impact on the game, and he continues to be admired by cricket fans worldwide.

Matheesh becomes most expensive player in LPL history

The player auction of the Lanka Premier League 2024 commenced at the Hilton Hotel in Colombo earlier today (May 21).

Out of the 420 players, 154 are Sri Lankans, while the remaining players are overseas.

Sri Lanka pacer Matheesha Pathirana became the most expensive player in the LPL history as the player was sold for a whopping USD 120,000 in the auction.

Samitha Dulan sets world record in Kobe

Sri Lanka’s Samitha Dulan set a new world record in the Men’s Javelin Throw F44 category at the Kobe 2024 Para Athletics World Championships.

He also won Silver in the F64 category after recording a distance of 66.49 meters.

Indika Gamage cliches bronze in Japan

Indika Gamage who took part in the T-44 100 metres final clinched a bronze medal at the World Para Athletic Championship held in Kobe, Japan yesterday (May 20).

He finished the race with a time of 11.83 seconds while South African para athlete Mpumelelo Mhlongo finished first with his seasonal best time of 11.34 seconds to win the gold medal and Malaysian Eddy Bernard finished second with his personal best of 11.77 seconds.

Indika also reached the Paris Paralympics Games qualifying standard with this achievement.
