President yet to accept Charles’ resignation letter?

President Ranil Wickremesinghe is yet to accept the letter of resignation tendered by Election Commission member P.S.M. Charles, sources at the Presidential Secretariat revealed.

On Wednesday (Jan 25), it was reported that Charles had forwarded her resignation to President Wickremesinghe.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission later stated that it is yet to receive any resignation letters from its members, contrary to the media reports.

The election body assured that preparations for the upcoming 2023 local government election are being carried out without hindrance, as no resignation letters or copies of said letters have been received thus far.

The local government election is scheduled to be held on 09 March.

Litro gas prices reduced with effect from midnight

Litro Gas Lanka has reduced the prices of domestic LP gas cylinders with effect from midnight today (May 03).

According to Chairman of Litro Gas Lanka – Muditha Peiris, the price of the 12.5 kg cylinder has been slashed by Rs. 175 to Rs. 3,940 while the price of the 5 kg cylinder has been reduced by Rs. 70 to Rs. 1,582. The price of the 2.3 kg cylinder has been reduced by Rs.32 to Rs.740.

CBSL updates pyramid scheme entity list

The CID has yesterday (02) informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate that the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has banned 04 entities as entities that have conducted prohibited pyramid schemes.
The entities mentioned in court are : Beecoin App/Sunbird Foundation, Fast Win (Pvt) Ltd, Fruugo Online App/ Fruugo Online (Pvt) Ltd Genesis Business School/ Era Miracle (Pvt) Ltd.

In a recent public release, the CBSL previously named 08 entities including the 04 aforementioned ones, as ones that conduct / conducted prohibited pyramid schemes.

Since then, they have added the entity- Windex Trading to the list.

Prof. Nalin de Silva no more

Philosopher, intellectual and academician Professor Nalin de Silva has passed away at the age of 79. Prof. de Silva initially served as a professor in the Department of Mathematics and later as the Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of Kelaniya. 

He was also a former member of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

In addition to his academic pursuits, de Silva also worked as a former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Myanmar.
