Assets over Rs. 55mn. belonging to “Kudu Roshan”, seized

The Police Illegal Assets and Property Investigation Division seized property worth over Rs.55 million belonging to underworld member “Mattakuliye Kudu Roshan”.

The assets include a vehicle and a house, reports say.

15 persons including underworld gangster Thuppahi Arachchilage Prasad Ruwan alias Kudu Roshan and eight children who were in hiding in a hotel in Nuwara Eliya in fear of the Yukthiya operation launched by the Sri Lanka Police to nab drug traffickers and smugglers, were arrested in Warakapola yesterday while they were returning from Nuwara Eliya to Mattakkuliya.

Kudu Roshan who was involved in underworld operations in areas centering Mutwal was accused of killing five individuals including Chutty Ukku in 2015 who was engaged in drug smuggling. Kudu Roshan along with his associates and family members had fled to Nuwara Eliya as Police are on the hunt for drug smugglers and traffickers as part of Yukthiya operation.

However, they have decided to return to Mutwal after ten days thinking that the operation had ceased due to Christmas.

They were arrested during a check up carried out at Anguruwella junction in the Warakapola Police division based on the information received to the Warakapola Police Anti-Corruption Unit OIC K.P.K.Ranawaka.

Police said that 10 males and five females including Kudu Roshan and his brother were among those arrested. Police said that they found heroin weighing 1.875 grams from the possession of an arrestee.

Cabinet sub committee to study Middle East situation

A Cabinet sub-committee has been appointed on June 23 to study the current situation in the Middle East.

Chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment & Tourism – Vijitha Herath, the ministers Wasantha Samarasinghe, Kumara Jayakody and Samantha Vidyarathna have been named as the other committee members.

Additionally, a committee of ministry secretaries have been appointed.

Meanwhile, speaking to media, Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure – Samantha Vidyarathna has said that the Government will take all possible measures to minimise the impact that the Israel-Iran conflict will have on local businesses, the country’s economy and the daily lives of all Sri Lankans.

Youth dies after being beaten with a helmet

A young man has died after being assaulted with a helmet during an altercation in Halwathura, Bulathsinhala.

Police said the incident occurred following an argument between the victim and another individual.

The victim was initially admitted to Horana Hospital, later transferred to Colombo National Hospital, and then returned to Horana Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased is a 30-year-old resident of Halwathura, Bulathsinhala, police said.

A 23-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident, and investigations are underway by the Bulathsinhala Police.
