The festival allowance of Rs.10,000 given to the armed forces for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year will not be given to army officers this year.

This allowance, which would be deducted from the salary, has been given to all officers and other ranks of the Navy.

It has also been given to other ranks of the Air Force and junior officers below the rank of squadron leader.

Although the army soldiers have been given this allowance, none of the junior and senior officers have been given it.

There are about 6,500 officers in the army and it was reported that most of them have faced great difficulties due to the unavailability of this allowance.
