The proceeding were held under the auspices of Mr. S. P Tao, Chairman Overseas Realty Ceylon PLC.
Minister of Foreign Affairs - Mangala Samaraweera graced the event as Chief Guest, where a host of distinguished guests including Minister of Megapolis and Western Development - Patali Champika Ranawaka, Minister for Special Projects - Dr. Sarath Amunugama, and State Minister of National Integration and Reconciliation - A.H.M. Fowzie were present.
The BOI approved project is the brainchild of Mr. S P Tao and is developed by Mireka Capital Land a joint venture between Overseas Realty Ceylon, the owner, developer and manager of the iconic World Trade Center Colombo and Bank of Ceylon, Sri Lanka’s largest Commercial Bank.
“We are delighted to be gathered here today, to witness a symbolic groundbreaking for the USD 166Mn Havelock City Commercial Development. On completion, in 2020, it will boast an iconic 46 storeyed 600,000 sqft office building and a 200,000sqft shopping mall which will visually anchor the Havelock City residence,” stated Mr. Tao.
Speaking at the launch, Minister Mangala Samaraweera said that, "I am confident that this phase of the commercial project of Havelock City will be a great success and set the pace for more development to enhance the lifestyles of the local community. I have no doubt that the economic strategies adopted will result in increased incomes and the growth of tourism, both factors auguring well for retailing."
Commending the project, minister Champika Ranawaka said, "I am sure this will change the entire landscape of this vicinity. This I think is a timely and essential intervention for the development of the Colombo CIty."
