Standard of ICBT degrees questioned ; Bambalapitiya Police gets complaints Featured

The Movement for the Protection of Consumer Rights issuing a statement said that the degrees awarded by the International College of Business and Technology (ICBT) located in Bambalapitiya is not up to proper standard.

This campus has branches located in Colombo, Nugegoda, Galle, Matara, Kurunegala, Kandy, Jaffna and Batticaloa and is owned by the Ceylinco Group.

It is also alleged that ICBT had failed to obtain the certificate of conformity from the CMC for their lecture halls at the Banbalapitiya branch.

According to the laws of the country, only government institutions have the provision to carry on Higher National Diploma (HND) certificate courses, but ICBT is said to be conducting such courses and awarding certificates,
which is illegal.

The Association for the protection of consumer rights charges that ICBT is hoodwinking the parents of students and carrying on with their illegal HND courses despite being warned by the tertiary and vocational education
commission to stop these courses.

Students who had followed the HND curses and obtained certificates had lodged a complaint with the Bambalapitiya Police that when they had taken their certificates for endorsement by the tertiary and vocational education commission to travel overseas for higher education or employment, they had been notified that ICBT was not authorised to conduct these courses and the certificates were thus illegal.

Another allegation against ICBT Campus is that many of their lecturers and management do not possess the required qualifications.
