The staff gathering that united employees of the country’s largest private bank was the launching pad for what is to be a year of commemoration, celebration and further commitment to stakeholders and the community by an institution that has, in the course of a century, become an integral part of the economic and social fabric of Sri Lanka.
The Bank’s Managing Director S Renganathan said the banking industry is changing at a rapid pace and the potential to enhance business is also growing, but in a different manner than we have been used to.
“Digital technology plays a key role in delivering services to our customers. And while we look around for potential locations in the region to spread our risk in economies, we should also bear in mind the great potential we have in our own country. I am fully confident that our team has the greatest talent and ability to transform and deliver the products and services of the new century.”
The Commercial Bank of Ceylon is the only Sri Lankan bank to be ranked among the World’s Top 1000 Banks for nine consecutive years. It is not only the largest private bank in Sri Lanka, but the only private bank in the country with an international presence of a 19-branch operation in Bangladesh, a foothold in Myanmar with a Representative Office in Yangon and a Microfinance company in Nay PyiTaw, and an emerging force in the Maldives, where it operates a fully-fledged Tier I Bank with two branches.
