Work commences in 40 factories in Katunayake FTZ

Out of the 80 factories in the Katunayake Free Trade Zone (FTZ), 40 factories have been opened and around 3,000 employees are working in the factories, Executive Director of the Katunayake Free Trade Zone MKD Lawrence says.

All the factories which are currently in production have been disinfected by the health authorities of Katunayake, the Executive Director said.

He added that the factory administrators have strictly complied with all health safety measures including social distancing in keeping with the personal safety instructions issued by the Health Sector when employees are working.

When contacted, Sujiva Kumarasinghe, Medical Officer of the Katunayake Medical Officer's Division told Lankadeepa that the factories of the Katunayake Free Trade Zone have started their operations and the workers and facilities are closely monitored by the health officers.

According to the recommendations received from the Public Health Inspectors (PHI) who are currently monitoring the work, all the work in the factories which are currently in the process of manufacturing, is being carried out in accordance with the health safety directives issued by the Health Ministry, the official said.
