400 employees of SriLankan sent on unpaid leave Featured

Around 400 employees on contract basis at SriLankan Airlines, has been sent on unpaid leave for three months, reports say.

The national career has been severely affected due to the Covid-19 pandemic and SriLankan Airlines Chairman Ashok Pathirage and 13 other senior officials of the airline had taken the above decision on April 24, following a discussion at the Softlogic Conference Hall.

It is said that 12 pilots are among those who have been sent on leave in this manner.

Reports say that they are at the risk of losing their jobs if the pandemic continues.

Internal sources of the airline say that employees in this situation are severely impacted as they cannot even leave the confines of their homes under the prevailing situation.

Initial attempts to contact Mr. Pathirage were unsuccessful. However, he had later responded and clarified the situation.

Noting that the decision was taken after the airline was forced to suspend operations, Mr. Pathirage said that the airline can only consider recalling them if the pandemic situation takes a turn for the better.
