100 complaints on malpractices at state banks

The Committee probing malpractices reported at state banks and government affiliated financial institutions has received over 100 complaints.

The complaints have been lodged by respective banks, trade unions and the general public.

The Ministry of Finance said the timeframe granted for the general public to lodge complaints with the committee has also been extended until the 30th of September.

The committee after investigating the complaints is expected to record statements from relevant parties.

The Cabinet of Ministers granted approval to appoint the committee to look into irregularities and malpractices that were said to have taken place at state-owned banks and financial institutions since the 8th of January 2015.

The committee is headed by Former High Court Judge Sisira Ratnayake.

The committee is tasked with compiling a report with its findings within three months. The report will then be submitted to the Cabinet through the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance.
