Shivalingam Alilvendan, the chief organizer of the association, said that he pointed out to the Minister that his importers had incurred a huge financial loss, including warehousing fees, due to the withholding of these turmeric consignments by the Sri Lanka Customs for more than five months since last May.
It is reported that the Minister has agreed to inform the President about this as soon as possible and provide a solution to their problem.
It is said that the Customs is holding 1,000,000 kilos of turmeric in 50 containers imported by the members of this association and the value of one container is Rs. 6.2 million.
