Accordingly, a tax of Rs. 1 per kg of dried fish, Rs. 127 per kg of sprats and Rs. 302 per kg of maldive fish have been imposed.
It is said that these measures have been taken to provide relief to the local dried fish vendors.
With the discovery of widespread Covid-19 infections from the Peliyagoda fish market, the demand for fresh fish has dipped and this will increase the demand of dried fish, sources say.
