Relief period for hotels to settle electricity bills extended Featured

Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga says the Electricity Board has been requested to grant hotels and holiday inns registered with the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority a grace period of six months to settle electricity tariffs.

The Minister said that the Secretary to the subject Ministry has directed the instructions in writing to the CEB. The Minister has requested the CEB to grant the grace period in lieu of the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism sector, with many institutions struggling to stay afloat due to the lack of arrivals until normality returns. Previously the Cabinet of Ministers approved a proposal to grant tourist hotels and inns registered with the SLTDA a period of one year to settle water and electricity tariffs without disconnection of services rendered.

CEB engineers were informed to refrain from disconnecting electricity supply to relevant establishments, granting them the opportunity for tariff between 1st of March 2020 to 31st August 2020 to settle them in installments commencing from the month of September.
