He was speaking during today's (22) Cabinet briefing.
However, he said that the number of expected visitors and the capacity of the airport system will be decided in the next two weeks.
"By determining the number of tourists arriving in the country in the first few days, we can gain an understanding of the capacity of the airport. Further decisions will be taken on this," he added.
Measures have been taken to open airports in the island to foreign tourists from Dec. 26,2020 - Jan 19, 2021 as a pilot project.
According to the government, international airlines will operate according to specific schedules prepared by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka.
In a bid to encourage international flights, Cabinet has also approved waiving landing and parking fees from Dec. 26, 2020 - Nov. 19, 2021.
