CPC to set up new gas company

The Government has decided to establish a new institution to manufacture Liquid Gas under the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), reports say.

'Ada Derana' reports the decision was taken during this week's Cabinet meeting.

The CPC manufactures nearly 5% of Sri Lanka’s Liquid Gas and provides it to the state-owned Litro Gas Lanka and private entity Laugfs Gas PLC equally, for distribution.

The Minister of Energy has already implemented preliminary measures with regard to the construction of the proposed new oil refinery with a capacity of 100,000 barrels per day at Sapugaskanda.

Following the completion of this refinery, it will help produce nearly 20% of the country’s gas requirements, the CPC adds.
