Internal fraud in registration of pharmaceutical companies Featured

The State Ministry of Drugs Regulation, Supply and Manufacturing has received a number of complaints regarding money being obtained from pharmaceutical companies and companies that have applied for drug registration, and an investigation has been launched regarding a group of officials, including the Legal Officer of the National Drug Regulatory Authority, reports say.

The National Drug Regulatory Authority has received complaints that the Legal Officer had acted in a biased manner in registering Pharmaceutical Companies outside her duties and that she had been paid for it.

The inquiry is being conducted on the instructions of Prof. Channa Jayasumana, Minister of State for Drug Regulation, Supply and Manufacturing.

A committee headed by retired High Court Judge Sarojini Kusala Weerawardena, which recommended changes to be made by the National Drug Regulatory Authority, has also submitted a preliminary investigation report to the ministry, reports say.

The ministry has also decided to take legal action against anyone found guilty in the investigations.
