At a media briefing held yesterday (20), it was announced that the event will be held at Jetwing Blue, Negombo on May May 18-21 under the theme ‘Disruption, Innovation, Transformation: The Future of Tourism’.
The media briefing was attended by Tourism Development, Land and Christian Affairs Minister John Amaratunga, Tourism Development, Land and Christian Affairs Ministry Secretary Janaka Sugathadasa, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority Director General Malraj Kiriella, PATA Sri Lanka Chapter Chairman Hussain Jayah and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau Managing Director Sutheash Balasubramaniam.
The PATA conference will mainly highlight issues related to sustainability, sharing economy, while disruptive innovation, marketing and research innovation, youth engaged in disruptive tourism, poverty and migration will also be discussed.
“So many entities are involved. There are 95 government bodies, states and cities around the world who are members of PATA. In addition to that, there are 27 airlines and cruises involved as well. Further, there are hundreds of travel related bodies involved with PATA,” PATA Sri Lanka Chapter Chairman Hussain Jayah said.
He added that the main advantage of the summit is the publicity and promotional activity created for Sri Lanka just by holding the event in the island.
Speaking, minister of Tourism Development, Land and Christian Affairs Minister John Amaratunga said that the PATA conference comes in heels of the successfully concluded World Tourism Organisation conference and French Travel Agents conference which were recently held in Sri Lanka.
