Increasing cement prices, a mafia - NCASL

The National Construction Association of Sri Lanka (NCASL) states that the price increase of cement is a mafia by cement importers.

Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo yesterday (26), chairman of the NCASL - Susantha Liyanaarachchi has urged all parties to halt all constructions for a period of 03 months.

He pointed out that the price of an imported bag of cement has not been stated and although it is the responsibility of the government to intervene and create a fair system in this regard, the authorities have remained silent, allowing the importers to do as they wish.

He further said that there are no people in the country who can afford to buy a bag of cement for Rs. 3,000 and a ton of iron for Rs. 750,000 and this will hamper all development activities in the country.
