Cigarette sales up by 5%

The Ceylon Tobacco Company has reported a 5% increase in sales volume in the quarter ended March 31, 2022 compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

The company released its financial statements for the quarter ended March 31, 2022, stating that turnover and government tax revenue (from the tobacco company) increased by 6% during the quarter.

According to the latest financial report, the Ceylon Tobacco Company reported revenue of Rs. 37 billion turnover out of which Rs. 27.84 billion has been paid as government taxes and Rs. 2.58 billion has been paid as income tax.

The company's after-tax profit for the quarter was Rs. 4.18 billion and in 2021 the Ceylon Tobacco Company has paid Rs. 100.75 billion as government taxes and Rs. 10.50 billion has been paid as income tax.
