2,000 bakeries shut down due to wheat flour price hike

Over 2,000 bakeries across the country have been shut down due to the prevailing economic crisis, the All Ceylon Bakery Owners' Association said.

The price of a kilo of wheat flour in that market has gone up to Rs. 350. Earlier, a kilo was sold at a price of Rs.84.

Association's Chairman N.K. Jayawardena said that a bag of 50 kg of wheat flour is currently being sold at a price of over Rs.17,000 in the wholesale market.
