PowerChina says will continue to work with Sri Lanka Featured

Power Construction Corporation of China, branded as PowerChina, says they will stand firmly with the people of Sri Lanka to overcome the current difficulties, their chief representative in Sri Lanka - Mr. Chen Ting said.

Mr. Chen said this in response to a query made by 'Sri Lanka Mirror' on whether the ongoing projects of PowerChina in Sri Lanka have been suspended due to issues including the ongoing economic crisis and non-repayment of loans.

He expressed these views during a discussion held with journalists participating in the China International Press Communication Center (CIPCC) 2022 media programme and leading officials of PowerChina at the company's head office in Beijing.

Meanwhile, PowerChina's Head of South Asia and the Chief Representative for Nepal - Ms. Xu Xiaoyun said the company has completed 14 projects including the Moragahakanda Reservoir and Kalu Ganga Reservoir projects in Sri Lanka.

She said they have five ongoing projects in Sri Lanka which include two irrigation and three water supply projects. "All five projects are still processing and we will continue to work in Sri Lanka. Together with Sri Lankan people, we will overcome the current difficulties," she said.

The Kandy North-Pathadumbara Integrated Water Supply Project is the current largest on-going water supply project in Sri Lanka implemented by PowerChina.

Reduction of Non-Revenue Water in South part of Colombo City project, Reliability Enhancement And Energy Saving Of Ambatale Production Facilities Project, Construction of Linking Tunnel of Moragahakanda Reservoir and Kalu Ganga Reservoir Project (KMTC) and the Construction of Basnagoda Reservoir Project are the other projects that are being implemented by PowerChina.
