SriLankan has over 110 drawing over Rs. one m salary Featured

The seriously cash-strapped national carrier SriLankan Airlines has nearly 110 senior officers drawing a monthly salary of more than Rs. one million a month, an investigation has found.

The investigation was carried out by a committee appointed by the prime minister to look into the airline with the intention of its reformation.

Once the report of the committee is handed over later this month, the government is to take a decision with regard to the national carrier.

By March 2017, it has incurred a loss of Rs. 169 billion.

The airline began to suffer losses after the previous government took over its management from Emirates Airlines, gaining a 94.68 per cent stake for itself and giving 5.32 pc to the employees.

It posted Nishantha Wickremasinghe, brother of Shiranthi Wickremasinghe, as the chairman and appointed eight directors, including Chamal Rajapaksa’s son Shavindra Rajapaksa.
