IITExpo-Colombo 2018 inaugurated (Pics)

IITExpo-Colombo 2018, a 3-day event, showcasing textiles of India, was inaugurated today (21) at the Galadari Hotel, Colombo.

Over 40 textile manufacturers from India are participating in this event, which will be held from Feb. 21-23.

They will be displaying varieties of apparel fabrics (woven, knitted and non-woven), made-ups, home textiles, traditional items etc in various blends, textures, colours and designs from various clusters of India. Namely; Tamil Nadu (Erode, Salem, Karur, Coimbatore), Solapur, Bhiwandi, Mumbai (Maharashtra), Ahmedabad, Surat (Gujarat), Kishangarh (Rajasthan).

This event is organized by Powerloom Development & Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL), for the 3rd time in Sri Lanka, with the previous events being held in 2013 & 2017.

A host of distinguished guests attended the inauguration with minister of Special Assignments - Dr. Sarath Amunugama attending as the chief guest. Deputy High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka - Mr Arindam Bagchi, Deputy minister of petroleum Resources Development - Dr. Anoma Gamage, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Apparel Exporters Association - Felix Fernando, Chairman of PDEXCIL - Sri Purushottam K. Vanga past chairman of PDEXCIL - Bharat Chachar and Vice Chairman of PDEXCIL - Sunil Patel also attended the event.

Speaking at the event, minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama said :

Noting that Sri Lanka and India have always been the best of friends, engaging in win-win situations in the business field, the minister said that the garment sector is a success story of modern Sri Lanka. Adding that the whole idea of marketing in the textile industry is changing he also said he is glad to say that ‘the Sri Lankan garment industry is a world leader in that’.

The PDEXCIL is set up by Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India for the promotion of overall growth and export of the powerloom sector in India. Having its Head office at Mumbai, and Regional Office at Erode (Tamil Nadu); they also organize buyer-seller meet, exhibitions, in India and overseas in order to promote the powerloom sector, and conducts seminars and workshops for the benefits of SME sector, to develop the skills in the industry with the support of the government of India.
