Cabinet approval has been granted to import 70,000 Metric Tonnes of rice as a short-term solution to address the existing shortage of rice in the market.
Speaking at a press briefing today (Nov. 20), Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe said that approval has been granted to import a stock of ‘Swarna’ Nadu Rice.
He added that the rice will be imported through the Lanka Sathosa and Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation.
