The first batch of privately imported cars, following the government’s decision to ease import restrictions after five years, arrived at the Colombo Port yesterday (25).

The vehicles, shipped from Thailand, mark the resumption of car imports for personal use.

According to the Vehicle Importers’ Association, the price of an imported double cab is expected to range between Rs. 24.5 million and Rs. 25.5 million in the local market.

A separate shipment of vehicles from Japan is scheduled to arrive at the Hambantota Port today (26).

Prasad Manange, President of the Vehicle Importers’ Association, stated that the move is a significant step towards meeting the demand for personal vehicles in Sri Lanka.
