The price of a perch of land in the area has now exceeded Rs. 4 million, the sources said.

She has been approved to receive a 9.68 perch plot of land as per a cabinet proposal.

The Cabinet decision states that the land is adjacent to the land allotted to the players of the 1996 Cricket World Cup winning team on a 99-year lease basis.

It states that the reason for giving her this land is in recognition of her achievements in bringing international acclaim to the country.

The proposal was made by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at a Cabinet meeting held on December 20.
