Renowned photographer Sena Vidanagama no more!

Veteran and acclaimed newspaper photographer Sena Vidanagama, the owner of many of the most controversial and unique photographs in the history of Sri Lankan newspapers, passed away today (08).

He was a photographer for decades at the Lake House Newspapers and the French News Agency and was 76 years old at the time of his demise.

Sena Vidanagamage was the only photographer to capture the assault by a Navy sailor on former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi during a visit to Sri Lanka on July 30, 1987. That photograph later became one of the most unique photographs in the world.

As a result of that famous photograph, Vidanagama got the opportunity to join the French News Agency as the photographer in Sri Lanka.

Sena Vidanagama was elected President of the Sri Lanka Photojournalists Association in 1995. He is a man of the age who has done a great service to his colleagues in the field of media photography and their future development.

His funeral will take place at the Welisara Public Burial Grounds at 6.00 pm tomorrow (09).
