"The Newspaper" nominated for Best Film from Subcontinent! Featured

The film "The Newspaper" co-directed by Sarath Kothalawala and Kumara Thirimadura has been nominated for the award for "Best Film from Subcontinent" among films from South Asian countries at the thirteenth Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.

This award ceremony is held annually in Australia with the aim of evaluating Indian films as well as films belonging to other countries of the Indian subcontinent.

Along with "The Newspaper", Chatra Veeraman's "Ayu" was also qualified for the 13th stage of the Indian Melbourne Film Festival which was inaugurated in the year 2010.

Previously Sri Lankan films ‘Igilena Maaluwo’ in 2012, ‘Ini Avan’ in 2013, ‘Thanha Rathi Ranga’ in 2014 and ‘Miles of a dream’ and ‘Bomba saha Rosa Bombs and Roses)m, in 2017 ‘Disadi Path’, and in 2018 ‘Thun Denek (Three Persons)’ were screened at this film festival.

The first time a Sri Lankan film was nominated for an award at the Enamudu Festival was recorded through "The Newspaper" directed by Sarath Kothalawala and Kumara Thirimadura Kuludule.

In the last two years, five of the best films from the South Asian region represented at the internationally recognized film festival have been nominated by the jury for the "Best Indian Subcontinental Film" of the festival, and among them is the film "The Newspaper".

Accordingly other films nominated for this award are:

**Bhutan's "Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom", nominated for "Best International or Best Foreign Language Film" at the 2022 Oscars

**Pakistan's 'Joyland', which won two awards at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival,

**Bangladesh's 'Rehana Maryam Noor', an official selection of the world's leading Oscar-Cannes-London festivals,

**Bangladesh-India co-production No Land's Man was nominated for the "Kim Ji Seok" award at the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea, the largest film festival in Asia.

** The Sri Lankan film "The Newspaper" won the second Best Asian Film Award at the Bengaluru Film Festival in India, approved by FIAF.

It is reported from local sources that an international jury including Oscar and BAFTA nominated editor Jill Bilcock will announce the winning film at the upcoming award ceremony on the 14th.

Television and film producer Asanka Dodanthanna is scheduled to participate in the award ceremony of the film festival which will be attended by Karan Johar, Abhishek Bachchan, Anurag Kashyap, Aparna Sen, Tamannaah Bhatia, Taapse Pannu etc.
