Damith declines offer to chair Film Corporation

Subject Minister Wijayadasa Rajapaksha had made a request to Damith Fonseka, the son of the king of the silver screen Gamini Fonseka, but he had turned down the offer, Sri Lanka Mirror learns.

Wijayadasa had made the request from Damith Fonseka on the directives of President Maithripala Sirisena based on several requests made to him by artistes to appoint Damith Fonseka to the post of the Chairman of the Film Corporation.

Damith Fonseka is also known for his prowess in film editing capabilities.

It is reported that Damith Fonseka had turned down this offer, despite many requests,  mainly due to the fact that he is a close friend of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

However, under such circumstances artistes have commended the President for having taken bold decisions for the betterment of the Film industry forsaking political  agendas.

They have also expressed regret over Damith’s refusal to accept the position, despite his close connection with the cinema industry from the time of his birth.
