Euro Film Fest 2023 : Aug. 18 screenings

Day 3 (Aug. 18) of the European Film Festival 2023 will feature ‘My Love Affair With Marriage’ by Signe Baumane at 3.30pm and ‘The Big Hit’ by Emmanuel Courcol at 6.00pm.

The films will be screened at the National Film Corporation cinema and admission will be free.

My Love Affair With Marriage  (2022, US, Latvia, Luxembourg)
Synopsis : The Award-winning animated feature is about a spirited young woman determined to find love in the bewildering world. My Love Affair With Marriage follows Zelma on her 23-year quest for perfect love and lasting marriage set against a backdrop of historic events in Eastern Europe. Told from a woman’s point of view, the film blends historical, biological, societal, and emotional arcs with a lively sense of humor and musical numbers. This animated film for adults tackles the issues of love, gender norms, domestic violence, fantasies and toxic relationships to propel a woman’s journey toward independence and liberation.

The Big Hit (French: Un Triomphe) (2020, France)
Synopsis : Etienne, an often out of work but endearing actor, runs a theater workshop in a prison, where he brings together an unlikely troupe of prisoners to stage Samuel Beckett’s famous play Waiting for Godot. When he is allowed to take the colorful band of convicts on a tour outside of prison, Etienne finally has the chance to thrive.  Each date is a new success and a unique relationship grows between this ad hoc group of actors and their director. But soon comes the final performance in Paris. Will their last night together be the biggest hit of them all?
