The National Film Corporation of Sri Lanka has established an expert committee to overhaul the country’s film distribution system.
Chairman of the National Film Corporation Deepal Chandraratne said the committee was appointed representing all segments of the cinema sector.
The committee will be tasked with developing recommendations to replace the current distribution process, which is restricted to four boards.
This move aims to create a free film distribution system that fosters growth and innovation within the industry.
The expert committee’s findings will be submitted to the Cabinet, paving the way for potential policy changes and regulatory reforms in the film industry.
He added that the Cabinet has approved amendments to the National Film Corporation of Sri Lanka Act.
This legislation, which has remained unchanged since its enactment in 1972, is set to be modernized to align with contemporary industry standards.
With this initiative, the government aims to address these concerns and create a more conducive environment for filmmakers.
