Govt. bans Liberty, Skyline from film import!

The government has temporarily imposed a ban on Liberty Cinema and Skyline Entertainment from importing films.

It is reported that this order has been issued by the Higher Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, based on a complaint made by the Film Exhibitors' Association.

The ban was imposed as the two companies had failed to adhere to an order issued by the minister that all film halls requesting for certain films imported by these English film importers should be issued these films without discrimination.

Upon inquiry by us the Secretary of the Film Exhibitors’ Association Nishantha Pradeep said that Liberty Cinema was run by Imthiaz Cader and Skyline Entertainment was operated by Thushan Rangana.

He alleged that these film distributors have a chain of 06 cinemas under them and they distribute these films only among these cinemas and raking in huge profits, depriving the others of the opportunity.

However, all our attempts to contact Imthiaz Cader for a comment proved unsuccessful.
