CEB incurs Rs. 5,000 m loss!

The Ceylon Electricity Board has incurred a Rs. 5,000 million loss due to the purchase of electricity from ACE power plant in Embilipitiya without competitive bidding.

Also, the agreement to buy electricity from this supplier for three years has allegedly been signed against the law.

The COPE last week summoned power ministry secretary Suren Batagoda and CEB general manager A.K. Samarakoon and questioned them about this matter.

Owned by Aitken Spence group, the 13-year-old ACE power plant had its license renewed in 2016.
