Ex-chairman’s order caused Rs. 10 m loss to SriLankan! Featured

The order by the then chairman Nishantha Wickremasinghe to divert a France-bound flight had caused a loss of more than Rs. 10 million to SriLankan Airlines, a presidential commission of inquiry was told today (15).

Furthermore, the 128 passengers of the flight had missed their destinations on time and that caused a big damage to the reputation of the airline, its flight managers said.

Wickremasinghe is the brother of former first lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa.

The presidential commission is looking into irregularities in SriLankan and Mihin Lanka Airlines during the period between January 2006 and January 2008.

Headed by retired Supreme Court judge Anil Gunaratne, it is recording evidence at the BMICH in Colombo.
