Sri Lankan women stand against nudity!

A group of women’s organisations in Vavuniya have commenced a protest march against nudity and partial nudity, which they claim has led to the rise in abuse against women.

This procession which commenced from opposite the Vavuniya Town Hall grounds, will travel up to the Vavuniya DIG’s office and will present a special latter to the DIG Anura Abeywickrama.

In their appeal they seek the assistance of the police in taking measures to stop women who are inappropriately dressed in revealing clothing on the streets and on television.

These women’s groups point out that not only do the Northern girls wear revealing clothing to tuition classes, but they have made it a style to wear such exposing clothing to even the temples and religious places, adding that females facing the rape and abuse has increased due to females wearing such revealing attire.

The DIG accepting the letter handed over by these women’s groups, assured them that speedy action would be taken regarding this matter.
