Decision on Ravi after PM’s Vietnam visit Featured

Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has promised to UNP backbenchers that he would raise the matter of granting a ministerial position to deputy leader of the party Ravi Karunanayake with the president following his official visit to Vietnam.

The attorney general is due to send a written clarification to the PM’s office on September 12 on whether Karunanayake is in the fault according to the bond commission report.

Wickremesinghe said he would take the report to the president at the weekend and discuss matters.

The media has quoted Karunanayake as having said that he was told by the president that he was not opposed to his being reappointed a minister.

UNP backbenchers have told the PM that the party was a disadvantage due to his not having a ministerial position.

Wickremesinghe leaves for Vietnam tomorrow on a three day official visit to attend the world economic summit on ASEAN in Hanoi.
