Fishlings released into estate tanks to boost nutrition of estate people

Under the National Aquaculture Development Authority programme to release fishlings into estate tanks in order to uplift the nutritional standards of the estate people, another 12,000 fishlings were released by the National Aquaculture Development Authority Nuwara-Eliya officers yesterday (13).

With the aim of promoting the fish propagation in the estate tanks the 12,000 Tilapia fishlings were released into the tanks at the Panmur Estate under the Hatton Staden Estate.

The fishlings were cultivated at the Dambulla Fisheries breeding centre controlled by the National Aquaculture Development Authority and these fishlings are expected to grow to around 1 ½ to 2 kg within six months, according to the National Aquaculture Development Authority Nuwara Eliya Project Officer Buddhika Kushan.

The fish harvest is scheduled to be given to the estate workers.
