Don’t speak up for Ranil, Gota’s supporters say Featured

MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage says the UNP fears Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, which is a must, but laments that some of his colleagues too, suffer from that same fear.

He was speaking at a meeting of the Kandy branch of the SLPP, chaired by ex-president Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday (15).

Aluthgamage questioned as to why some of his colleagues were worried by the fear Ranil Wickremesinghe was having, and urged colleague Kumar Welgama not to speak up for the prime minister.

According to him, the UNP supporters are having worse problems than them, but the second rung leaders of that party are bearing up with the problems for their party’s sake.

Some of our own taken for a ride

Also speaking here, MP Lohan Ratwatte said some in their own side left high and dry and taken for a ride were carrying tales while new leaders are trying to raise their heads.

He too, urged his colleagues not to speak up for anyone, and warned that there would be options the party could take against such speakers.

Then, the name of someone was heard from among the meeting, and Ratwatte said he wouldn’t know if it was Welgama.

He insisted that they had one and only leader in Mahinda Rajapaksa, whom all should serve without speaking up for anyone else.

Heads should be examined

MP Dilum Amunugama told the gathering that they received a ‘head examination’ report of deputy minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama, and that the SLPP should have a psychiatrist as a committee member.

Keheliya Rambukwella and other speakers at this meeting too, registered their opposition to Welgama over his remarks to the effect that he was opposed to Gotabhaya Rajapaksa being made their presidential candidate.
