The committee was set up by the minister and should the minister be absent when the report is to be handed over to him, it could also further postpone Local Government polls.
This is because dates for the LG polls can only be set after the report is gazetted and this requires the presence of the minister.
Upon inquiring from the minister whether he is preparing for an overseas trip, the minister said that he was planning to go on pilgrimage to Mecca with his father at the end of this month.
Mini polls in May
Meanwhile, President Maithripala Sirisena had said that it will be possible to hold the LG polls in April or May 2017 and that the gazette notification will be issued soon.
The President was addressing a meeting of SLFP district and electorate organisers which was held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute on Dec. 20.
