This was in response to a request made by the Chief Executive Officer of the BBS Dilantha Vithanage.
In his appeal, Vithanage had noted that the Ven. Gnanasara Thera had been sentenced by justifying certain false charges and had sought an appointment with the AG in order to provide a video explaining matters.
He has said that by this incident the independence and trust of the judiciary has been tarnished and had told the AG that by giving them an opportunity to prove Ven. Gnanasara’s innocence, the lost trust and independence of the judiciary could also be restored.
