19th amendment to be annulled? Featured

The 19th amendment to the constitution will immediately be annulled, says former minister of the central provincial council Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon.

Speaking at a media briefing held by the SLPP, he said the amendment failed the litmus test and would be done away with for the country’s security and future.

The amendment, brought in by a minority government, created various problems and is a defeated one now, he said.

This amendment prevents dual citizens from running for or getting elected to parliament.

It is considered a hurdle in the way of granting SLPP founder Basil Rajapaksa a parliamentary seat and handing him the country’s economic affairs.

Geetha Kumarasinghe lost her MP position as a result of a ruling by the Supreme Court under the 19th amendment.
