Vijith Vijayamuni Soyza, Mahinda Amaraweera, Duminda Dissanayake, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Piyasena Gamage and A.H.M. Fowzie have expressed their fears to president Maithripala Sirisena.
Thereafter, the president gave instructions to SLPP founder Basil Rajapaksa, who met them and assured them about their political future, SLFP sources say.
There, Dissanayake has ruled out ever contesting the election under the SLPP’s flower bud symbol.
The symbol to contest
The SLFP, UPFA and the SLPP have reached basic agreement to contest as a single front.
The SLPP is of the view that they should rally under the most popular symbol, which is its own, lankacnews reports.
People’s representatives, affiliate trade unions and organizations of the SLPP that met yesterday stressed the same.
President Sirisena is expected to meet with top SLFP leaders today to reach a decision in this regard, the website adds.
