Ferry service from Jaffna to India

Minister Douglas Devananda has said that a decision would be taken with regard to a ferry service between Jaffna and India, subsequent to discussions.

He said this during his visit to the Killinochchi, Ratnapuram Ghanapathi Kovil for a programme on November 24.

The minister said that a large gathering of devotees from Jaffna attend the annual feast of the Sabarimalai, Aiyappar Kovil in India and discussions would be held regarding this ferry service which would be very useful to these pilgrims.

A group of devotees had met the minister and made this request as it costs a lot for them to travel by air and this ferry service would reduce the cost of travel significantly.

Last year too these devotees had made a request from the government to provide them a ferry service to attend the Aiyappar Kovil festival, but had not received a favorable response.

They said that around 10,000 devotees attend this festival annually.
