Journalist assault : DIG trying to release CDS's allies

Attempts are being taken to release the Navy personnel who assaulted journalists at the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court premises earlier today (28), without producing them before courts.

'Sri Lanka Mirror' learns that a DIG in Colombo is involved in this attempt.

The Navy personnel had assaulted Indika Handuwala, a photojournalist of the newspapers - 'Aruna' and 'The Morning' when the latter was attempting to take a photograph of Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne leaving the court premises.

The Navy personnel, who are said to be Navy intelligence officers and allies of the CDS, had been subsequently arrested by the police.
