Mugalan’s tusks should be destroyed Featured

Environmentalist Ravindra Kariyawasam says that wildlife officials had taken away the pair of tusks belonging to the murdered young tusker Mugalan.

He says the Wildlife Department will be accused over Mugalan’s killing if the tusks are not destroyed following the conclusion of the related judicial process.

Kariyawasam notes that Sri Lanka has a history of donating the tusks of murdered tuskers to temples or to politicians.

He says all elephant tusks should be destroyed in order for the society to cease its demand for same.

On the other hand, the racketeers involved should be arrested and prosecuted, the environmentalist stresses.
