During the excavations at the Mannar old Sathosa building site yesterday, the team had discovered several skeletal parts that seem to have been bound by some substance, according to the Archaeologist conducting the excavations, Specialist Judicial Medical Officer Saminda Rajapaksha.

Rajapaksha said that the two skeletal parts that seemed bound together had been sent to the Mannar Magistrate for his attention and investigations would be carried out to determine if these skeletal parts had been bound together with some sort of metal substance, or if it is some sort of jewellery, or if it is cement.

Rajapaksha said the excavations at the mass grave, has unearthed skeletal remains belonging to 266 individuals as of yesterday (06), while skeletal remains belonging to 260 individuals have been systematically removed through excavations.

Under the first and the second stages of the excavations, soil layers had been removed from the site, but, the perimeters of the excavation site would have to be expanded further, he said.
