Youth drowns in spill-level Iranamadu Tank (pics)

A person had drowned in the Iranamadu tank yesterday (09), which is currently at spill level, according to the Killinochchi Police.

The victim is 21-year-old named Dilakshan, a resident of Chavakachcheri, Meesalai.

The Iranamadu tank had been renovated and had reached spill level, while the sluice gates had been opened on December 07. Yesterday, four sluice gates had been opened and the victim had gone to bathe in the tank when he had drowned.

A large gathering had been present to witness the sluice gates of the Iranamadu tank being opened.

The Killinochchi Police life guards had found the drowned person and brought him ashore but he was already dead.

The body of the victim is lying at the Killinochchi Hospital pending the postmortem examination.

The Killinochchi Police is investigating further.

Meanwhile, a small girl who had fallen into a channel where the Iranamadu tank excess water is being released to, was rescued by the youth in the area.

The girl had come to see the water flowing in the channel and had fallen into it. However, the youths in the area had seen the girl falling into the channel and had quickly rescued her.
